YOU VILL LOSE
To create this series of photographs I duplicated and physically manipulated one iconic photograph of Ivan Drago, the villain of Rocky IV. The narrative of that film positioned him in the Cold War arena as the de facto alternative to the American hero. He is an expression of physical perfection and bravado, yet he is vulnerable, alienated and ultimately defeated and betrayed. I have always felt a personal connection and fascination with Ivan as hero, mirror and archetype. A handmade book of these images is available at Printed Matter in New York.
