BELLY

Illuminated by the unmistakable blurry blue light of a baby monitor, my hands palpate my strangely plastic belly while my child sleeps. This video work exists in the negative space of the social-media-beloved “bump” - the shadow reproductive body, emptied of its charge and unsure of its purpose and form, making shapes that no one wants to see. Paying tribute to Mary Kelly’s Antepartum (1973) and reminiscent of sci-fi horror narrative of bodily transformation, Belly is a view into the dark abyss of all that is “after.”
