PEOPLE USED TO DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE
Scale model of the Roosevelt Island Bridge. Because of its self-contained nature as a small island, Roosevelt Island has attracted the imagination of countless architects, politicians, and urban planners over the last century. I created a performance activity in which I attached signs to the bridge that described some of the visions the island has inspired. Some, like the idea that garbage would be invisible, came true. The island has a unique underground pneumatic garbage disposal system. Others, such as the plan for it to be powered by wind, or by the footsteps of humans, have not materialized.
